Preventing Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) oncogenic, which attacks the cervix. Prevention of cervical cancer can be done with screening and vaccination programs.
The development of women’s health showed better news and hope, after the discovery of liquid Pap test. Pap Test is a method of cervical cancer screening that is more accurate than conventional Pap smear method.
A gynecologist can help you to detect and provide vaccines, but to find a gynecolog that suits you, try to consider five factors below:
- How good is your relationship with your gynecolog.
- What exactly is your need, early detection, prevention or treatment.
- Is your gynecolog is able to explain and answer all your questions properly. Or even share a discussion about the questions you ask.
- Whether your gynecolog has trained and experienced in any surgical procedure that may be needed.
- Whether your gynecolog working hours match with your time, so you can freely manage your time and make an appointment with the gynecologist.
There are three risk factors for cervical cancer, the originator of natural factors, hygiene factors, and other factors.
- Natural factors: Factors which are naturally occurring and are powerless to prevent it. Includes in the natural factor is age (over 40 years, the older a woman the higher the risk of cervical cancer)
- Hygiene factors: HPV infection, whitish that occurs continuously without treatment, sexually transmitted infections (STDs), pads that contain dioxin, washing genitals with unclean water.
- Other factors: First sexual intercourse at a young age, Switch-sex partners, not doing Pap tests regularly
